Modified Glasgow Coma Scale (Paeds)

Determination of conscious level: use AVPU (A = alert, V = response to verbal, P = response to pain, U = unresponsive) or the Glasgow Coma Scale (GCS) modified for children, below.

Monitor: Hourly

Consider intubation if no response to pain, or GCS ≤ 8 and not improving.
If GCS < 12, monitor ¼ hourly till improves.
If GCS ≥ 12, monitor hourly.
