Acute Otitis Media Pathway
Where is the patient in the pathway?
Any red flag?
Middle ear effusion on otoscopy?
Reduced membrane mobility, bulging membrane or otorrhoea.
Middle ear inflammation?
Erythematous membrane or otalgia.
Answer both otoscopy questions.
Notes
Suspect AOM with otalgia, fever, crying, irritability, URTI symptoms, poor appetite, vomiting or diarrhoea. Not all of these may be present.
